From sun exposure to age spots and redness, your skin deals with a lot.
IPL Photofacial treatment helps reverse those visible signs with the power of intense pulsed light. It’s one of the most effective ways to treat pigment and vascular skin concerns without the downtime of traditional laser treatment.
Sun exposure can cause cumulative damage to the skin - often called sun damage, photodamage, or photoaging - leading to uneven tone, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. If you’re noticing any of these concerns, an IPL Photofacial may be an effective solution to restore a clearer, more even complexion.
At Metro Medspa, we utilize advanced IPL devices to deliver targeted light energy, improving skin tone, reducing discoloration, and stimulating collagen production. Whether you're looking to reduce dark spots, broken blood vessels, or overall redness, your provider will create a personalized plan to help you achieve clearer, more radiant skin.

An IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to target and treat common skin concerns. While it’s often called a laser therapy, IPL is technically not a laser, making it gentler and more versatile treatment for many patients. Unlike lasers that focus a single wavelength, IPL therapy delivers broad-spectrum light pulses that can treat multiple issues at once.
The light energy from the IPL device penetrates below the surface to break up unwanted pigment and constrict visible blood vessels. At the same time, it stimulates collagen production, which improves overall skin texture and tone over time.
IPL treatments are ideal for patients with lighter to medium skin tones dealing with sun damage, discoloration, acne scars, or signs of aging.

To come up with the right treatment plan, your provider will assess your skin and discuss your concerns and objectives during your initial consultation.
During your IPL Photofacial, your provider will first apply a topical anesthetic followed by a cooling gel to prepare the skin for treatment. You’ll then be given protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the intense pulsed light. As the light pulses are delivered, you may feel a mild snapping sensation, similar to a light rubber band against the skin.
Each session typically lasts 30–45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. Afterward, you may notice slight redness or warmth—much like a mild sunburn—which usually fades quickly. With little to no downtime, most patients return to their normal activities immediately.
IPL Photofacial treatment targets a variety of skin conditions, such as:
IPL Photofacial is commonly used on the face, neck, chest, and hands — all areas prone to damage from sun exposure.

IPL delivers real improvements with little interruption to your routine. Benefits of IPL include:
IPL Photofacial is best for lighter skin types (ideally skin types 1-4 on the Fitzpatrick scale). To treat sun damage, the laser targets a contrast of melanin in the skin. In darker skin types with more melanin, the laser can’t differentiate between the normal pigmentation in the skin and the buildup of melanin caused by sun damage. For the same reasons, IPL Photofacial is not recommended for patients with an active tan or patients using self-tanner.
IPL is not recommended if you’re taking blood thinners, are pregnant, or have certain medical conditions. A complimentary consultation will help determine if IPL is the right fit for you.

Most patients experience mild redness or swelling that fades within a few hours to a day. Pigmented areas may darken temporarily before flaking off, which is part of the normal healing process.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds during recovery and throughout your treatment series. Daily sun protection is essential to maintain your results. Following your provider’s aftercare instructions will also help the results last longer.
IPL helps reduce pigmentation by delivering targeted heat to the affected areas, bringing underlying pigment to the surface where it naturally flakes away over the next few days. The treatment also stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, helping to refine pores and promote firmer, smoother skin
Results typically begin to appear within a week, with continued improvements over several weeks. Most patients see optimal results after 3–5 IPL sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Each session builds on the last for more consistent and dramatic results.
You’ll see clearer skin tone, softer texture, and a reduction in visible discoloration and redness. With good sun protection and skincare, those results can last long term.
Your skin deserves more than a one-size-fits-all solution. At Metro, your IPL therapy is designed by a qualified provider who knows how to treat sun damage, redness, and dark spots safely and effectively.
We don’t overpromise — we tailor each plan to your skin concerns, tone, and sensitivity level. Our technology is backed by real science, and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
IPL uses intense pulsed light to target pigment and blood vessels in the skin. Light energy breaks down unwanted pigment and stimulates collagen for a smoother skin texture.
Most patients feel a quick snapping sensation. It's mildly uncomfortable but brief — often compared to a rubber band.
Common treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, and hands. IPL can also be used on other sun-exposed areas.
IPL is safest for lighter to medium skin tones. Darker skin may be at higher risk for pigmentation changes. We’ll assess your skin during your consultation and may recommend alternative treatments like microneedling if necessary.
Downtime is minimal. You might see slight redness, mild swelling, or temporary darkening of spots before they flake off. Most patients return to normal activities the same day while practicing good sun protection.
Most patients need 3–5 treatments spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
